My English Book

The writer of the book The Best Of Me is Nicholas Sparks. The book is about a man named Dawson. He lives in New Orleans and worked with something on a boat. At the very first beginning there was an explosion on his work and he was the only one who survived. He can't sleep because he still has nightmares from the explosion and he feels like he's being haunted. After some weeks he found out that his friend just died, so he decided to book a flight to the town Oriental in North Carolina to be at his funeral.

Tuck who just died was the one that took kind of care of Dawson. Dawson's father always hit Dawson when he was younger- and Dawson couldn't do anything about it because he was too weak. His father never had a reason for hitting him, he just drank too much alcohol and then started to hit him. As Dawson got older he started to be much stronger. Finally when his father attacked him he fought back and started then to run out of the house to find another place to stay. He finally found Tuck's garage. Tuck let him stay there if he helped Tuck in his garage. Dawson earned a lot of money and when his father found out that he had money, he brought Dawson's two older cousins Ted and Abee. When the three of them came to the garage they all had baseball bats and Ted even had a knife in his pocket. They threaten Dawson to give them the money that he earned, and he had to give them because i he didn't they would kill him. From that day Tuck helped him a lot with the money.

Dawson got a flashback when he came back to his hometown Oriental. He thought a lot about Amanda, the girl he feel in love with. He always liked her and he never thought that she would like him back, but she did. When they talked and understood that the both of them liked each other, they got together. Her parents didn't want they're daughter to be together with a Cole (Dawson's last name), but she didn't care about that because she loved him and he loved her. Things got more difficult, her parents told her that if she didn't break it of they wouldn't pay for her college, so she got really mad and ran out of the house. Suddenly Dawson saw her at the front door of the garage crying, so he let her in. They talked and talked and Dawson decided that it was better if they broke up.

Amanda got very upset, because she couldn't believe that after all they been throw he would break up with her. Dawson was of course very upset too. When he broke it of he turned away so she didn't have to see his tears. He knew that after they broke up her parents would give her the money she needed to go to collage. The following week she moved into the dorms at Duke University. He knew that he was never going to see or speak with her again.

For a long time, she'd considered herself lucky, and Frank had been a big part of that. They'd met at a fraternity party during her sophomore year at Duke University. Despite the chaos of the party, they'd somehow managed to find a quit corner where they'd talked until the early hours of the morning. Two years older than she, he was serious and intelligent, and even on that first night she knew he'd end up being successful at whatever he chose to do. It was enough to get things started. He went off to dental school at Chapel Hill the following August, but they continued to date for the next two years. An engagement was a foregone conclusion, and in July 1989, only a few weeks after she'd finished her degree, they were married.

After some years she already had three kids, but the youngest girl Bea got sick. Eventually she died. After her death Frank started do drink beer almost every night. Amanda got really worried because he refused to go to rehab. Sometimes when Frank got drunk they started argue, but he never got violent so he didn't think that he had a problem. One time Lynn the sister got really sick and Frank was so drunk so Jared the older brother got to drive her to the hospital.

Amanda remembered when she used to go to Tuck. Even when her mother was out of town she went to Oriental. She loved spending time with Tuck. After Tucks death she went to Oriental again. When she went to the diner there she heard some elder talking about Tuck. Even after his death they talked bad about him, like that he was weird and crazy, but Amanda didn't remember him that way. When she was with him he was the kindest and most amazing person.

These pages that i've read was about Dawson and Amanda. Sparks wrote in Amanda's perspective. She talks a lot about Dawson. She miss him and she sometimes wonder what if she was married to Dawson instead of Frank and would she be the same person that looks back to her in the mirror? And she wonder sometimes if Bea was alive, would Frank still be an alcoholic. There's a lot of thoughts in her mind. She can never tell Frank about Tuck because then she had to tell him about Dawson too.


I've learned a lot since I started to read this book. I'm still gonna read books at home because I learn new vocabulary and my reading speed is faster now. I understand more of the text now then what I did before. Sometimes I want to read out loud cause it will help me pronouns the words better.
